A native of Franklin in western North Carolina, James has lived in Burlington since 1968.  He realized a talent for drawing at a young age and has practiced, developed and expanded his ability to include pen and ink, watercolor, acrylics, and oil painting.  The majority of his art reflects his love of the land and sea as well as the animals that inhabit both.  He is most recognized for his realistic impressions of landscapes and seascapes using watercolors and oils as his mediums of choice.  He has developed his own style of painting and has taught privately as well as through Alamance Community College for many years.  His art hangs in many collections around the world.   James was the charter president of The Burlington Artists League in 1972.  Through the years he served the League in numerous capacities.  Retiring from teaching drafting in the Alamance-Burlington School System has afforded James the time to devote to his passion of art and is allowing him to expand in the art community.

Carolyn, a native of Haw River, has resided in Burlington since 1971.  She retired in 2000 from the Social Security Administration.  Painting has been a primary hobby of hers for the majority of her life.  Watercolor is her primary choice when it comes to fine art.  As she has experimented with different mediums she has developed a realistic impressionistic style of her own that she can adapt to watercolor, acrylics, and oils.  Her favorite subjects are flowers many of which she grows in her own flowerbeds.  In addition to flowers she enjoys painting still life arrangements as she pays close attention to light and form.  In addition to the fine arts, all types of crafts and sewing intrigue Carolyn.  You will find a variety of objects and surfaces; paper, canvass, candles, glass, tin, wood, slate, and rocks with her delicate paintings adorning them.  Art and craft enthusiasts across the states and around the world treasure her work.  She has taught painting and craft classes privately and through organizations.  As a charter member of the Burlington Artists League she has served as president,  vice president, secretary, and numerous committee chairperson positions.

Carolyn and Jim enjoy traveling, taking photos, and sketching potential subjects that they may later use to produce paintings
